Mark Guzdial on Computing Education for more than a Tech Job
Siebel CS 2405
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Computer science was originally invented to be a subject taught to everyone, to help them learn anything. But somewhere along the way, it became about getting a high-paying Tech job. Illinois is famous for its “CS+X” degree programs. I have been exploring what happens when you drop the “CS” entirely, and instead ask, how can we use programming to better learn in the “X” fields. In this talk, I’ll demonstrate some of the ways we teach, the new languages we’re inventing, and the new ways we define what should be in the curriculum.

Ashwin Jadhav on Aviation Decarbonization: Producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel from CO2
Siebel CS 2405
9:30 PM - 10:30 PM
Twelve is a carbon transformation company, on a mission to eliminate global emissions by converting carbon dioxide into useful products like sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). In the future, the power-to-liquids market will sit at the heart of a fossil free, circular and electrified energy system. I work with airlines, operators, airports, OEMs and industrial partners to implement the technology at scale. This game-changing technology is a key driver to achieving 2050 net-zero targets in aviation and beyond.
